I am a new member having recently acquired a 1940 field grade FW 16 guage LC Smith. I am so happy with it. Appears new in every respect. I want to shoot and enjoy it, but i am unsure what loads I should put through it. I have read numerous articles but am still confused. I would like to reload, but need the empty hulls to do so.
I was in a cabelas this weekend and saw Herters brand 2-3/4 inch hulls--1oz at 1165fps. No pressure was given though. Would this be an acceptable load?
I see the RST falcon lite 2-1/2 inch hulls--7/8oz at 1125fps. No pressure listed there either. Would this be a better load and I assume there is no issue with shooting the 2-1/2 inch hull in the 2-3/4 inch chambers.
I want to enjoy shooting the gun for many years, but do not want to damage it in any way. And it would be nice to reload for it, but not necessary if that is a difficulty for 16 guage these days.
You expert guidance will be humbly appreciated by a new and proud LC Smith owner.
