Here's the short version. Imagine this, I just arrived at the Southern Thursday in the AM, pulled out the Crown 20 to shoot the Parker/Smith small bore challenge and it will not go together. Firing pin is protruding and will not retract. Had a couple of folks tell me it was broke and I was done. John Liles has just pulled into the event and happened to walk up to me. Told him my story and he said bring it to the truck and we'll fix her. I said but John they tell me you have to mic and hone and file and all kinds of stuff to make these work and besides that you gotta have a firing pin. He says no problem, got a whole bag of em. Well alrighty then so off to his truck we go. In no time he removed a stubborn well fit side plate, popped out a pin that was deformed from the hammer strike to the point it would not retract, put a new pin in, tested it, popped the plate back in and said go shoot it. Well I did and it worked perfect and he would not take a quarter from me, he did take a little "aiming oil" later in the day. Now here's a guy who just arrived and surely had a 1,000 fun things on his mind to do but he never once gave it a second thought to helping me out. Talk about a nice gesture. For what it's worth you got a little reward with an LC victory in that event. Thank You kindly John, you are a gentleman and a scholar !!
