Jent For 2018 we have two open BOD slots, and all one needs do to understand our BOD election process is read the article in the most recent issue of the L.C. Smith Journal. Basically we have 7 Board member positions, and each BOD member serves a three year term. By initially using staggered and shortened terms, our system is designed so that no more than three terms expire each year. To be a BOD member one must first be a Life Member, must be in good standing, and MUST BE WILLING TO WORK. The LCSCA is blessed with a fair number of Life Members, but only a hand full willing to actually volunteer (the BOD votes to raise salaries each year, but they remain at $-0-) to spend their free time and weekends working; most seem content to simply enjoy the events as presented by the Board and various Committee Chairmen (such as yourself and the LCSCA calendars). And although we ask and encourage Life Members to participate as a BOD candidate each year, the typical response is thanks but no thanks. These are the facts, so please don't read these comments as complaining; but the truth is that our ability to attract "new blood" into these leadership positions will be the ultimate determinate as to the long-term survival of this organization. Frank and Jim have put countless hours of time, work and personal treasure into building the LCSCA to the prominence this organization presently enjoys; but in spite of how much we may appreciate their efforts, Jim and Frank ain't gonna' be around forever! So between now and next October, 2018 please give some serious thought to becoming involved in a leadership role. All a Life Member has to do is make an existing Board Member aware of their interest; and if you do so choose, I can personally attest that your rewards in personal satisfaction will more than compensate your efforts.
