Mike, Tom Archer nailed it again. His story has way too much fact in it to be mere fiction. He touches on many challenges to collecting these guns but the biggest one for me is pricing. When I started in the early 80s the Blue Book was the main/sole resource. Now we have many sources especially internet auctions. Back in the old days and even now Gun Shows were the best way to shop and compare but only a few shows today have many if any nice LCs. I have built most of my collection thru gun auction sites but a deal can pop up anywhere. The gun collecting business is far behind many other collecting fields when it comes to accurate reliable pricing. While no two LCs are exactly alike unless they are both new-in-box but even then the boxes would probably be in different condition. As more and info becomes available on #s and variations of guns (See books mentioned in other posts) along with auctions records the pricing issue seems to be getting better. Good luck and I think your desire to shoot them should help with not reaching too far for one but hey, it didn't always help me! Jeff Brant
