One of the easiest and cheapest is a process where a cleaner is applied to the area of concern. Next a penetrant, usually red, is sprayed on the area. Let dry per directions on can. Wipe off, then spray developer on area. Again let dry. Any red lines showing are cracks, the darker they are the deeper they are, We used these for checking welds. The brand name was Magnaflux and I believe it was called Spot Check. We used an NDT company to Magnaflux our overhead crane hooks and on some parts of our turbines. A local welding supply house should carry the three cans.
