    Chamber length Archived Message

I have both a 20 ga and a 16 ga where the chamber length measures 2 3/4 inch, measured with a chamber measuring gauge. When I measured an unshot 2 3/4 20 ga shell, it comes up just short of 2/12 inch. Is it safe to say then that the two guns were chambered for 2 3/4 shells or should I still be shooting 2 1/2 inch shells. Both guns were made are feather weights and made in the lat 1940's. Thanks
