Still catching up from the Vegas show. Enthusiastic response to the calendars and did some Smith evangelism.

Many thanks to David Lien who gave me barrels from an 1895 F grade 10g hammer gun found up in the rafters of a cabin up on a mountain in Idaho! They will take lots of cleaning but may actually be usable. Amazingly the original Twist pattern is distinct under the (missing) forend. More later.

I really enjoyed meeting another imaginary internet friend, Chris Lien, and talking turn-of-the-century trapshooters and looking at his incredible collection of photographs.

This image appears on p. 268 of L.C. Smith "The Legend Lives" and was used with Chris' permission by John Houchins.
The original photo is clearly marked "Chas. D. Harbaugh" - NOT Harvey McMurchy.

Similar but different mustache; me c. 1898

So Charles Dana Harbaugh of Manito, Ill. won a major shoot to receive the Smith vase and DuPont painting, but surprisingly has only ONE mention in the Sporting Life archives

Springfield, Ill., November 4. The Central Illinois Trapshooters’ League held its last shoot of the season on October 27 and 28 at the Illinois Gun Club.
1st day team competition 2nd place individual high score – no mention of award.
2nd day individual championship “Charles Harbaugh of Manito, won second prize, a copper loving cup…”

So that's not the shoot he won.

I very much appreciate Chris taking the time to show me the original photo.
