Brian, The .410 from Hunter Arms L.C. Smith is a true side lock gun. The box lock made by Hunter Arms like you stated does not have L.C. Smith on it. The side lock took more man hours to make and so the price was higher, I'm guessing the difference to be around $100. The box lock was priced for individuals that could not afford a side lock, BUT these guns are built very well, so well in fact that other gun manufactures had them made for them and stamped with their logos. Sears Roebuck & Co. was a big one, they had hammer and hammerless guns made in the Gladiator series and in the Ranger series. While the 12, 16 and 20 gauge box locks are at a decent price now, the .410 brings quite a bit more and was only made in the Hunter Special model. The Hunter Special had the rotary bolt like the side locks.
