I have inherited my Great Grandfathers 10 gauge. At one point he put a recoil pad on the butt stock and kept the original plate with the shotgun. It's made of a composite material of some sort. I figured that it would be a later model because of that but I don't know much about it. I was told with the serial # being 20237 it is about an 1887 model. So I'm thinking of getting the recoil pad removed and replaced with this original butt plate but I want advice on getting it done right. What do you recommend?
