Ejector gun more difficult to closeArchived Message

I recently acquired an L. C. Smith field grade 12 gauge, made in about 1946, with single selective trigger and ejectors rather than extractors. It closes with more difficulty than my extractor L. C. Smith guns. It appears that the ejectors are being pushed in against their springs as the gun is being closed, where in my extractor guns the extractors slide in easily as the gun is being closed. Is this difficulty in closing normal for an ejector gun? The gun extracts unfired snap caps and ejects fired snap caps, which is what I would expect. The seller thought the ejectors had to be "reset" but said he did not know enough about L. C. Smiths.
