    Dave, I never got familiar with the cocking tool and fumble using it. About the best tool for taking the pressure off a mainspring when disassembling a lock.

    On the extractor you will notice two half round cut-outs that match with the placement of the firing pins. They have a bevel and are supposed to push the firing pins back so the gun will close without hanging up. Notice how I said supposed to.
    On the hammer guns I shoot, most have that feature but I find myself pushing the firing pins back in as it is easier than holing the gun at port arms and let them slide back it.

    One other thing to do if you have not done so is to take the locks off, remove the firing pins and clean out the cavity. The firing pins might be hanging up on some crud from over the years.
