Does stock length include the pad? Archived Message

I have inherited my grandfather's nearly pristine 1941 double trigger Ideal grade. He hunted with it for ten years or so before having to quit due to an auto accident. The gun has been pickled since, occasionally taken out to be cleaned.

My grandfather was a small man and I am told he had the stock cut down to fit. Measuring from the forward trigger to the aft end of the recoil pad is 14 inches, the standard stock dimension. The pad is approx 0.5 inches thick, so the stock length to the end of the wood is about 13.5 inches.

Does the stock length normally include the pad, or is this stock a half inch short of "standard"?
