According to the company shipping ledgers, Serial Number 43149 was finished on August 13, 1921 and consigned to Frank Hughes. "Consigning" was the way that Hunter Arms provided shotguns at no cost to professional shooters. The shooter would keep the shotgun for a season or more and return it to Hunter Arms. The date that it was returned was not recorded (usually, it is) but it was sold on November 27, 1925 to J.S. Carpenter. It is likely that Hughes was in possession of SN 43149 in 1924.
