    Cliff, replacing the stock is a big expense and I went through this on two guns. One is this Specialty Grade that had a LOP of 12 1/2" to the end of the wood, plus an ugly recoil pad. Since I don't like recoil pads I decided to try and add a piece of walnut to increase the LOP.


    I had a decent piece of walnut and added the extension to be 14 1/4" to the end of the butt plate.

    Can you seen it, absolutely, does it bother me, not as much as the $3,000 it might have cost to replace it with that wood. Can I live with it, yes it's mine and not for sale. The best part it is not glued on just two long screws hold it on so it can be taken off if need be.

    All it takes is patience, mixing the right stain, a marker to replicate the grain and some final finish after the butt plate is fitted.
