KENT FIELD BLANKS (DISASTER) IN MY ELSIE !!! Archived Message

Posted by Dan Bell on November 13, 2015, 12:21 pm

I recently (1st time) purchased a box of Kent field trial blanks for dog training. The box says,"DO NOT USE IN AUTOS"! Also, it says, "SMOKELESS POWDER AND NON-CORROSIVE PRIMERS !" So, I used my pre-13,field grade "baby"! I used the entire box of 25. I only used the LEFT BARREL.After the dog training session, I wiped the gun down with a silicone rag, it was a warm, dry day. The next morning, I broke the gun down for a good cleaning. HOLY *HIT, the left chamber, left barrel and left bolt face were covered in rust. Scared the hell out of me !!! One hour later, the Hoppe's #9 cleaned the rust.I cannot see any pitting. I followed with a light coat of oil as usual. I've left the gun dissassebled as to check for recurring rust. This morning, I tested all areas with clean, white patches. A tad more rust had formed ! Hence, another complete cleaning ! With the left bolt face rusted, I'm praying none of the corrosive *hit got behind the firing pins ?
Has anyone used these Kent blanks before ? If so, what were your results ? I also posted this scenario on another hunting/guns forum. Those who used these Kent blanks had similar issues !I've sent an e-mail to Kent...I await their response.
To paraphrase the Jewish people, NEVER, NEVER, AGAIN !!!
    Thanks guys,
    Danny
