    Hi Vince,
I don't know what you mean by your L C Smith hates plastic wads. Do you mean that the wads leave residue? Do you get poor patterns? Are your barrels "frosted?"? I have been shooting Federal factory #8 shot field loads from my 1919 20 ga. Elsie field grade, and have had no issues with any type of fouling. I have not even seen any signs of plastic residue. My bores are bright and shiny. To clean my bores I soak a patch with Remington shotgun cleaner [I believe at one time I read it was formulated to remove plastic residue} I put the patch over a 20 ga. cleaning mop and run it through the bores. I put a clean soaked patch each time and do each barrel twice. I then run a different mop soaked with Rem Oil through each bore. I have used this routine for my other shotguns as well, and it works for me.
I will look through my old reloading manuals and see what I come up with, I may have something from around 1969, but I don't think I have anything from 1955.
    Myles
