Cheek Piece Guns, Revisited Archived Message

Posted by John Liles on October 17, 2015, 7:10 am

John Chew's inquiry below regarding Single Barrel Trap guns has prompted me to ask our membership again if anyone else has purchased or otherwise stumbled upon an Elsie with a cheek piece stock.

As of this moment I know of 6 that exist today.

My first LC Smith is an OE Grade with a numbers matching factory cheek piece stock. I've since come upon two more, a 3E 2 bbl set, and what is thought to be the first Specialty Grade ever produced. The OE and the Specialty grade are only 41 numbers apart.

John Chew's SBT , a beautiful example, has the same design cheek piece as both the OE and the Specialty.

Tom Breeden indicates that including Johns Specialty Grade SBT, he only knows of two SBT's with a cheek piece. Tom is the Keeper and Curator of all knowledge SBT!

That brings us to 5 so far and there's one more depicted in Houchins book "L.C. Smith The Legend Lives", a Grade 2, on page 177.

That brings us to six known to still exist. When I originally posed this question, years ago, there were only my OE Grade and the one pictured in Houchins book. Unfortunately, there were never any indications in the records of stock configuration, so we'll never know how many were produced.

I'd like to gather as much info as possible on the cheek piece guns we can identify, and pass that info on to RevDocDrew for inclusion in the photo trail section of our website.

    Thanks,
    John
