Hunter Arms seldom, if ever, identified Damascus steel barrels; choosing instead to let the finished pattern speak for itself, but Hunter always identified fluid steel barrels as to type; and with a Monogram Grade, that identification was typically engraved on top of the barrels themselves near the rib joint. Monogram Grade Smith guns were typically shipped with Whitworth Steel barrels; but a few were shipped with Krupp, or Damascus. If there is no marking atop the barrels; remove the barrels and check the bottoms of each tube between the barrel flats and fore iron hanger lug. If Krupp, they will be marked/stamped "Krupp Fluid Stahl" (or similar); and if Whitworth, there should be a wheat shaft trademark stamp. Damascus barrels will have no marking.
