I think I recall seeing the inlaid ebony wedge in th forearms of several field grade Elsie doubles, and have in fact one in my modest collection that is a standard frame 1909 "00" with the ebony wedge in the front of the forend. Was this ever common, or even ever done at all? I thought maybe this had occurred from a switching of forearms between guns, but I'm not that educated in the ways of "L. C. Smith"-dom yet.
