I believe the barrels are 2 Iron, but definitely a different pattern (smaller scrolls) than the usual "Good 2 Rod Damascus" sourced in Liege.
Yes, all rough forged tubes had provisional proof marks, and frequently maker's marks, which were ground off during the finishing process.
The remains of the
Banc D'Epreuves de Liege
provisional proof mark that must have been struck deeply
