    Charles, I also have a few that the for-end is very hard to remove. It is because the "J" spring that holds it on fits very tight into the barrel loop. It is better this way than having the for-end fall off.
    To get that in between feel means that the "J" spring has to have a slight amount removed from the tip, or needs to be slightly bent more, of which I would do neither.

    As Brother Drew stated use a old time clothespin with the duck bill or I use a 10" 1/4" diameter dowel with the front ground at an angle. Slip it under the for-end and gently pry it off.
