Be advised that I haven't ignored your email to me; I've tried a number of times to respond but can't get by your spam filter, so I'll respond here in the hopes that you are checking the forum.

Thanks and good to hear from you. Like you I thoroughly enjoy those Smith guns from the early production periods because they are so well made; and because there is more variation within Grade, which makes them all the more interesting to collect. Although I won’t be writing about that Grade 4, I will be writing about a couple of the unique guns from our Deep River display; and one essay will feature a gun whereby Hunter’s repair shop built a Grade O Smith gun using a set of Quality 2 Syracuse era barrels as the platform for an otherwise new Grade O gun (don’t recall David having posted a picture of that gun). This is the second such repair shop rebuild I’ve come across from the Hunter Arms era; the other having originally been a C Grade Syracuse hammer. The barrels from that gun were modified and used as the platform to create a new (10-bore) Grade 2-E HOT gun with straight grip (the frame and stock to this gun still survive, but the forend was lost; I hope to write about that gun someday also).

As to our LC Commerative shells, we ordered 10 flats and all were sold at the event; but we do have extra of the peel and stick labels that could be applied to any full or empty RST box (the shells inside those commerative boxes were unique as each was individually stamped “L.C. Smith Collectors”); I’m sure we could sell you a couple of labels for a $10 donation to the LCSCA if interested. A shell box so decorated would display just as well on a shelf as the originals commerative boxes we sold.
    Advise and thanks
    Tom Archer"
