Thank you both for your help and wonderful insight about this gun. Do you think getting a factory letter would provide additional information as to it's original situation? To answer your question, I am in Richmond, Virginia and would love to know of a good gunsmith nearby who is good at restoration work that I can use for three other Elsie's in my study. I have not actually purchased the 3E 12 bore we have been discussing here. As you noticed, it has corrosian on the barrels and casing and someone did a terrible hack job with a whittling knife where the checkering was on the stock, but the bores look like mirrors.
