I agree with David; the top rib most definitely features factory matting, and the late style forend escutcheon would be a clear indication that the barrels and forend were replaced at the gun works long after the gun shipped to its original owner. This gun has seen a lot of use and some unknown degree of abuse; but is somewhat rare in its current configuration, and certainly worthy of proper restoration. With a single trigger, and given the amount of use seen by this gun over many decades; there could be any number of reasons why this gun won't "work". And as I assume you are a novice, I strongly encourage you not risk further damage to the gun and attempt no repairs yourself. Give us your location, and someone here will make a qualified gunsmith recommendation.
