The pictures that Jent posted are the first style ejectors that utilize the mainsprings upon firing and opening the gun. These and along with the first style for-end release was used until 1900 or a very few months into 1901. In 1901 the second style of ejectors came out with the second style of for-end release that used a 7/8" round escutcheon held in with a wood screw on each side. This was only used in 1901 and after this the banjo style release was used. You can probably guess why the second style was not used longer.
