Ode to Our Three Departed Comrades-in-Arms: Rich Beyer, Andy Anderson & Cliff Brooks
There be some who know. but everyone should, Of the existence of our very special brotherhood. Men who treasure the field sports that are true and real, Know the whiff of powder and the glint of Damascus steel.
We are the backbone of a once proud nation; Without us, freedom would be subject to ration. My piece is a Smith, Fulton made with true side locks, But there were fine guns made by Remington, Ithaca and Fox.
We stand shoulder to shoulder at that firing line; Old, young, tall, short; but to a man, proud and fine. Now we doff our caps when one of our number Is called away to peaceful slumber.
But ere his spirit is free heavenward to soar He’ll hear one last and thundering roar, As we raise our smoothbores aloft and shoot A parting shot, a fond salute.

With Cliff Brooks I shared yet another driving passion, For sports cars, flat four, mid-engined of air-cooled fashion. The sort which carve up the back roads & master the twisty bits; The bane of Lancias & Alfas; giving MG drivers the hissy-fits. Alas, now our special crowd, the Porsche 914 nation Will have to turn a solemn lap in missing-man formation.
