I need a replacement butt plate and I am considering refinishing part of the stock because it looks like the stock sat in water at some point. Any advice on the technique and products to use would be helpful. I read on one site that Hunter Arms used Rose Oil Finish but that may not have been around in 1911. I was hoping I could strip the butt of the stock up to the checking and then apply several coats of Tung Oil.
