Thanks for your response David. The serial is 28066. there is no "H" There are no markings on the barrel. The only markings are the serial# when you take the barrel off and the emblem on the butt plate. So I would assume that would mean it was 1895 by your information above. This was my great-great grandfathers gun that I have just recently received and just trying to get more information on the gun and though the gun is in what I consider relatively good condition, what the best way to bring it to the best condition possible and if it can be or should be shot, etc. Thanks again for your assistance.
