It is pretty much just luck if they fit, but if the serial numbers are close it improves the likelyhood of being close. I have had one set of hammer gun barrels that fit right on, another set of hammerless barrels that only took a minute or two to fit, but I also had a set of barrels for a Curtis fore end that I never found a gun that they came close to fitting, until I tried them on a gun of a friend, and they fit perfectly with no work required. Also, just because a set fits the frame, it doesn't mean that the fore end will fit without some work.
