I assumed woodcock without really inspecting the picture since the bird was in the mouth of a Britany. I've been told most snipe hunting doesn't involve a dog, but I'll confess to never hunting snipe outside of camping with the cub scouts so that might be totally wrong. What kind of snipe is that? The leg is throwing me because it has dark feathers. I thought snipe have a white underbelly that would extend to the legs. The bird in the picture has brown feathers on its legs which seem to extend pretty far down the leg.
