I had a similar safety problem and took my 1905 12 ga. to Bill Schwarz for repair. He did the fix while I waited and I'm back in business. Interestingly, he did not lubricate the safety spring (the one with split prongs). He said he didn't consider it got much wear on the whole so didn't really need lube plus lube tends to attract dirt and dust which leads to more abrasion. He is worth the trip to get to know regardless of where you are located. Very interesting guy.
