This post on the double gun shop includes a response from a fellow who worked in the Marlin factory when these were being made. According to him, the barrels were hot salt blued. They are definitely very shiny. http://www.doublegunshop.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number Unfortunately, this gun has been neglected. In addition to the loose (now removed) rib, the barrels have several areas of pitting on the outside. Now that I know the ribs are "supposed" to be glued on, I was thinking I might get someone to polish and refinish. So am I looking for quote on hot salt blue or having them black chromed?
