Fluid steel and Damascus steels were used concurrently for a number of years, and the use of Damascus steel didn't die out until the 1930's in American guns. So far, no one has defined the differences between the various trade named steels such as Armor, London, Nitro and so forth. Remington was an early manufacturer (user?) of fluid steel, and their model 1894 shotgun could behad with two types of fluid steel, Remington steel and ordnance steel, as well as Damascus. Fluid steel was cheaper than Damascus in some cases, and the main distinction between the 00 and 0 grade LC Smith guns was that the cheaper 00 grade had fluid steel barrels, while the 0 grade had Damascus barrels.
