Not the forum to be checking SAC guns; but no one alive knows more about them than me, so here goes. The gun was named after its inventor, Frank A. Hollenbeck, and the patent date is Sept 26-93. With a 241 serial number, this gun would have been made in 1893; and is first year production. From the engraving description, it is a Grade 1; a $35 gun at retail in 1893, and the second lowest grade manufactured. This model came in 10 and 12 gauge and featured twist steel barrels SAC called New Twist. These guns came standard with checkered stock and forend, ebony forend tip, and hard-rubber Dogs head butt plate. Most had 30" barrels and round-knob grip; and all early models came with manual extractors.
The Grade 1 was discontinued sometime after 1896 when the gun was re-named the Syracuse after the city where it was manufactured (Hollenbeck left the company in 1895, and this move could have been retaliatory). The Syracuse action went thru at least three changes; and production ended in 1905 when the company was sold to the Simmons Hardware Company in St. Louis.
If you gun has animal or bird motif engraving, I'd like to see a pic.
