    Don the only oil finish used on L.C. Smith's was in the higher grades, below Specialty grade it was mostly a shellac finish and alcohol will remove it.
    What you can try is, to take a few cotton balls wrapped in a lint free piece of cloth and make a tight ball with it. Put some shellac on it and rub it circular over a spot until it re-distributes the finish. Put a few more drops on and add one drop of oil (3in1)and do the same. You can do the whole stock this way and it does not take long. Just don't leave the shellac ball on the wood, lift it off or else it will stick, add a few more drops of shellac and another drop of oil.
    Not hard to do and you will get the feel of it.
