Use a small wood dowel to release the forend by inserting in the space between the barrel hook and forend iron. The size of dowel will depend on the gauge of the gun. Use the tightest fitting piece you can find. 6" was plenty for me, but a longer piece can be used for leverage in the case of a tight fitting forend release. Place the barrels muzzle down on the floor. Using one hand, push or turn on the dowel so that the forend is being pushed toward the muzzle. In doing so, you are recreating the spacing which is normally present if the barrels and forend are actually on the gun. Holding this position, reach down with the other hand to release the forend. A roller latch is released by using the thumb to roll the latch while reaching forward with the index finger to pull away the tip of the forend. The tension of every forend spring differs. For this reason, don't be ashamed if you find an additional pair of hands is necessary for this procedure. You will need to overcome the "J" spring tension. You should not need to force anything !
