The Hunter Arms Company Ledger No. 2 contains detailed information for this serial number. In addition to the usual grade/gauge/barrel length/options, it contains stock measurements, weight, type of steel, and the name of the purchaser of this 1899 shotgun.
It is definitely a candidate for a research letter.
