Harvey McMurchy left Cincinnati for Syracuse and L.C. Smith in 1886, and was the primary traveling representative for Smith, and then Hunter Arms Co. until 1914. In 1894, the W. Fred Quimby Co. at 294 Broadway, New York City advertised as the "New York Agents for the L C Smith Hammerless Shot Gun and General Agents for Empire Target Co." Quimby was still representing Hunter Arms in 1898, at some point also represented American “E.C.” Powder Co., Laflin & Rand Powder Co., and Western Cartridge Co. Robert Hunter represented Hunter Arms at the First Annual Sportsmen's Exposition at Madison Square Garden, New York in 1895 and Thomas Hunter called on the East Coast for both Hunter Arms and Hunter Wheels in 1897. In 1896, Charles Wagner represented Hunter Arms at shoots in the Northeast and was also responsible for the “Gun Testing Gallery” at the factory in Fulton. He took that same position with Remington Arms Co. in Ilion in 1900. It appears that Harvey McMurchy may have traveled through the west with both Col. A.G. Courtney (Remington) and S.A. Tucker (Parker) in 1899 http://www.la84foundation.org/SportsLibrary/SportingLife/1899/VOL_32_NO_25/SL3225014.pdf Harvey McMurchy and Col. A. G. Courtney (Remington Arms), two popular gun salesmen, attended a holiday shoot at Kansas city Feb. 22. In a live-bird sweep each killed 14 out of 15. Both did well in the target events. http://www.la84foundation.org/SportsLibrary/SportingLife/1899/VOL_33_NO_01/SL3301014.pdf H. McMurchy, of the Hunter Arms Co., and S. A. Tucker, of Parker Bros., are now in San Francisco working the trade in the interests of their respective firms. They took part in the club shoot of the Olympic Gun Club on March 12; McMurchy killing 12 straight and Tucker 10 out of 12. In a six-bird sweep McMurchy again made a clean score. In 1908, "Haze" Keller and Harvey's step-son went to work for Hunter Arms http://www.la84foundation.org/SportsLibrary/SportingLife/1908/VOL_52_NO_16/SL5216013.pdf The Hunter Arms Company has again "hit" the "shining mark" of enterprise in taking on two new salesmen Haze Keller, Jr., a son of Thomas Keller famous as the best-natured man who "travels the road” and Neale Moore, son of Harvey McMurchy, long in the service of the same company. These two young men give every promise of "bringing down the game" and a "rapid fire" of orders for Smith guns that will break all records, is expected from their trips in 1909. Keller will "hunt" for business in the Eastern States and Canada, and Moore in the West under the able guidance of his father. At the 1910 GAH http://www.la84foundation.org/SportsLibrary/SportingLife/1910/VOL_55_NO_17/SL5517024.pdf Hunter Arms Co. - H. McMurchey. A. P. Curtis, E. A. W. Everett, J. T. Skelly, W. D. Stannard, Arthur Killam. 1912 GAH http://www.la84foundation.org/SportsLibrary/SportingLife/1912/VOL_59_NO_17/SL5917022.pdf Harvey McMurchy and W. B. Curtis, of the Hunter Arms Co., had the only exhibit of guns on the grounds. Their success was gratifying. Feb. 7 1914 Harvey McMurchy, the veteran authority on guns and trap shooting, for many years the advisor of the Hunter Arms Company, and T. H. Keller, Jr., who covers the East and South for the same organization, paid "Sporting Life" a visit recently. McMurchy has been under the weather with eye trouble, but is now perfectly well and able to attend to business. Keller will have a territory this year that will bring him into touch with the shooters in and about Philadelphia, where he has many friends. This company is now planning for a big season with its popular Smith gun. SO guns out of inventory could have been consigned to any of these folks and never made it into the shipping records
