10 guage quality #5 Archived Message

Greetings, I own a fine # 5 10 Guage damascus serial #30905. Inside the left lockplate is the # 5 stamped with the proper pat. dates on the frames water table, my question is after reviewing Mr. Brophy's book, this gun was made in 1890, but has a stepped down lock plate and made by Hunters Arms, could this be a transitional gun between the A2 or A3 and 5, or could it be a Crown grade, the serial numbers of other grades of equal or higher order do not have this gun in them, although made in 1890, the lock plates with the step down has muddied my search, for none of the examples in the book show this lock plate in that year of manufacture or examples of the 5. I was pleased to find a forend and trigger guard for this gun after a 10 year search, although it came from a lesser grade gun.
Reciever and barrells have matching serial numbers, how can one bring this great LCSmith back to its "original" completeness without destroying its current condition. the engraving is sharp and clean, damascus is about the best I have seen on any shotgun and the bores are bright and mirrored. I am a shooter and shoot this shotgun with blackpowder shotgun shells and it has never failed in function or form, I seek council on any future moves I make with this fine gun, thank you, semper fi, mrp
