Gentlemen: Do I correctly assume that both the aforementioned Ideals in the 3xx,xxx range are extractor guns? They should be, according to the shipping records; therefore, to determine the first Ideal, the numbers from this ledger would also require comparison to those serial number ledgers from the same period for Smith guns with ejectors. This sort of thing would be an interesting study for someone with access to those pages from the original records; but a lower serial number does not always indicate an earlier shipping date. For example, a page from the 1895 ejector gun ledger (52 guns) that includes order and ship date information (ledger page information is not consistent book to book, so such data is not always available) lists serial numbers with ship dates as much as three years apart (and two numbered frames are never shown as completed and shipped). Maybe now that the LCSCA has a copy of those records, someone will take the time to try and ascertain interesting details such as "firsts".
