Likely that you will never be able to learn the true history of the gun. The gun was made in 1940, and the serial # puts it prior to the the ordinance marked guns. On the other hand, why would anyone bother to stamp counterfeit US markings on the barrels? Perhaps this gun was submitted to the military for approval prior to the ordinance order. Shoot it and enjoy it.
