    Kathryn,
I'll try and give you what I know. The value end is very hard because condition is everything.
The first gun is from 1887. It is a Syracuse L.C. Smith Grade 2 I believe from your description. In decent shape with no dents in the barrel, no cracks in wood either in stock or forend. No pitting in barrels, no pitting on the outside, just good honest wear it could be worth $900-#1500. These old Syracuse guns are getting some recognition now.
The other L.C. Smith is a 1908 16 ga. Grade O with ejectors.
The value like the above is all about condition again. In decent shape, honest wear to the checkering and bluing on the barrels being worn especially where it was being held, with the ejectors it could bring the same or better.

This is only going by what you described and only an estimate. Don't let a gun dealer tell you because of the Damascus barrels they aren't worth much. These older guns with these barrels are worth as much if not more than some of the steel barrels.

Also don't get the appraisel from the same dealer that you might sell to, you will never get what the gun is worth because he has to make soomething also.
Post some close-up pictures and someone will help you get a decent estimate.
