Jason, Your Grandfathers gun is most likely from 1899, even tough the serial number is not listed if you go to 1900 it starts at 79xxx. Date you saw is for a patent date. The grade would be "F". You could have it looked at by a good double gun gun smith, to be thoroughly cleaned and there are low velocity low pressure shells that you could shoot through them once you got a good report back on it.
