    Field Grade 16ga question... Archived Message

    I inherited one a couple years ago. Never been much on shotguns, but as this one has been used by at least 3 generations of my family to kill game it's a keeper. Some times I like the full drop stock, but my main questions are these:

    1) Would a Field Grade be worth restoring? I mean Doug Turnbull-grade work, not a hot tank reblue.

    2) Is there a LC Smith gunsmith in East TN?

    3) Somebody mentioned factory letters. There is a family legend that my great-grandfather traded a Sweet 16 Browning for this Elsie in the middle of the Clinch River in 1907. How much is a factory letter?
