Hello John, and welcome to the forum. While there aren't too many remaining, raised cheekpieces were and option on LC Smith shotguns. It appears that they were raised to customer specifications, as I've seen several variations, and no two exactly alike. If you look on the picture trail accesible from the home page of this site, there is a nice picture of a somewhat subtle cheek-piece stock. I'll send you an e-mail with a picture of my gun with a much more pronounced version. The best way to tell if yours is original to the gun is to raise the tang strap of the trigger guard. If she's original, then the serial number of the shotgun will be stamped into the wood of the stock. In any event, if the gun fits you, and she's been deemed safe to shoot by a competent vintage double gunsmith, shoot her often and she'll raise eyebrows anywhere you take her.
    John
