    Obscure Set Screw Archived Message

I recently purchased a 1905 field grade 12 gauge LC Smith with armor barrels. It had been in the same family since new, but needed repair. The anchor block for the forend was loose on the barrels. Someone had tried to solder it. The Seller said he had taken it to gunsmiths and was told it would have to go back to the "factory". After a hour or so in the shop, I found the loose anchor block had a set screw that must be tightened from the top. Seems LC Smith made no provision for tightening this setscrew after the barrels were assembled. Taking great care with measurements and clearances, I was able to drill down between barrels to tighten the setscrew. Wanted to share the info should anyone else have a problem with this inaccessible set screw on the LC Smith. Thank you to all who has commented on the appropriate, low pressure shells for this vintage 1905 LC Smith. Most helpful.
