Well today was a pretty good day. Went up to Northeastern Missouri to hunt on some of my families ground. Met up with two of my cousins and we hunted hard today. Pheasant numbers are down in this area...and we only saw 4 today, with 3 flushing wild ahead of us.

Quail numbers were great but they were sure scattered about. Large coveys of 20 plus birds with the last covey around 40 birds or so. One Cousin could not hit anything today, while the other one and my self had a good day.

I took alot of jokes in the morning when I pulled my Field Grade out. At the end of the day, the jokes were gone and each asked to handle the gun and it was much admired, even for a lowly field grade. I was just a bird shy of my limit of Quail and one rooster shy of a limit on pheasants. One of my better hunts in this part of the state in quite a while. We had to hunt hard for them though...covered around 7 miles in walking. The new snow helped but sure made for rough walking. My legs are still screaming!

Had to include the pup in the last picture. She hung in there the entire day, and didn't lag behind at all. She comes from a great line of pointing labs and from the way she worked today, she is going to make a fine dog. Showed alot of interest and really watched and learned from the other dogs. We held the others back on one shoot and just let her see and react to the action. We downed one quail in front of her and let her loose! She scrambled out there in 6 plus inches of snow and got right on the bird. I am looking forward to more hunts with here in the future, hope the progress continues with her.

If your wondering why the roosters tail feathers are missing is that my Cousin plucked them as his wife makes decorations with them.
