I was shooting with some boys that lived in Down Patrick, the burial place of St. Patrick. I went over there hoping to shoot a curlew, and did have a few shots. All were long though, and I was shooting poorly, so I didn't connect. We had tons of fun though. Shot ducks on the ponds at night, decoyed wood pigeons during the day, went lamping for rabbits one evening, and wandered around on the foreshore of Strangford Loch. Highlights of the trip were killing two banded mallards, and having a nice cock (drake) widgeon on the foreshore. I'm thinking of going back over next season for another try on the curlew. Here's a couple pics: Rig of curlew decoys below the tideline on Strangford. My friend Jackie giving me "the look" after I'd missed the only decoying curlew of the trip. A brief moment of redemption when I managed a slick 40 yard shot on a nice cock widgeon. My friend Tom looking over the Loch on my last morning there. Jackie coming to fetch me for a run to the airport for my flight home. The skinny bald fella is another friend Sturvie. I don't know how I managed a smile, Sturvie and I had closed up the pubs in Down Patrick the night before and I was flying mightly low. That Bushmills will make even a strong man weak.
