Some years back someone captured on film the expansion that a regular shotgun barrel went through when slugs were fired through it.The expansion is much greater than firing a normal shot load.I can only immagine what a rib must go through on a side by side by putting slugs through it.Modern slug barrels are made much thicker for this type of usage.Another consideration is the stock of an aging gun not really designed for the recoil that slugs produce. The cross over factor of barrel regulation will cause slugs to do strange things in side by sides down range.I have on accassion had a desire to use slugs around the farm.I keep a couple of inexpensive single barrels that do ok for that purpose.Everyone has their own opinions on this but thats mine for what its worth.Good luck;Charlie.
