    Revdocdrew,

Your posting about Christmas gift assistance brought back a very fond memory. For Christmas 1957 (I was 14 years old) my parents gave me the greatest gift that I could have ever imagined: a 16 gauge, L.C. Smith Ideal Grade with automatic ejectors. I still have that gun and plan to pass it on to my Grandson. (Sadly, his dad - our oldest son - is a Beretta O/U fan. Oh well.) My dad told me that he bought the gun from a good friend for 50 bucks which was a steal even back then. I hunted with that gun for many years before discovering that it had 2 9/16 inch chambers and was choked full and extra full. When I remarked one day to a hunting buddy that it kicked like a mule, he recommended that I have the chamber lengths checked as he said that heavy recoil was a symptom of short chambers. (I was not very knowledgable about guns back then.) I've since had the chambers lengthened but it's still choked tighter than an owl's butt. It's now semi retired as I usually hunt pheasants with a 12 gauge Ideal Grade I inherited from a beloved Uncle on the German side of the family who got me interested in hunting and L.C. Smith shotguns when I was 10 years old; and that's an interesting story in and of itself. Anyway, I can't think of many Christmas gifts that would be more cherished than a nice Elsie. To paraphrase Clement Moore: Good luck to those who may have visions of Elsie's dancing in their heads.

    Happy Holidays,

    Ed St. Thomas
